When technology gives way to architecture

Concealed fittings by 3DHome3D turn the bathroom into a calm composition.

Minimalism in the bathroom does not begin with the colour of the grout, nor does it end with large-format tiling. Its real test lies in the elements we have grown used to accepting as technical necessities: flush buttons, access panels, toilet-roll holders, toilet-brush boxes and ventilation grilles. A few small plastic surfaces are enough for a carefully composed wall to lose its calm.

That is precisely why concealed, tile-over fittings are making an ever stronger mark on contemporary interiors. The principle seems self-evident, but its execution demands an almost jeweller-like precision. A piece is cut from a single large-format tile and fixed to a supporting module so that the pattern, texture and joint continue seamlessly. The technical element does not disappear functionally, but visually: it remains accessible, yet gives way to the architecture.

The Czech company 3DHome3D manufactures these solutions in-house, linking custom 3D printing with the specific material and place of use. From the survey and digital model through the prototype to the final piece, what emerges is not a universal compromise but an element designed for that particular wall. The systems can be adapted to various types of tiling and to standard concealed modules by Geberit, Alca, Grohe, Jika and others.

Experience from family villas, mountain apartments, modern timber-frame houses and development projects confirms that this is no showy experiment. For the architect, the main value lies in the possibility of preserving an uninterrupted wall composition. For the developer, a concealed system offers a path to a higher standard without any fundamental change to the layout. And for residents, it means a calmer space that is easy to maintain and works well every day.

In the Rezidence Vinorum 1905 project, we have combined this approach with Vertex Group’s Smart Development concept. For us, smart development does not mean filling an apartment with technologies that draw attention to themselves. It means thinking through their placement, servicing and everyday use so well that they serve the interior quietly and naturally — especially in a historic house whose original architecture deserves the leading role.

In the show apartment, we therefore demonstrate a bathroom and WC free of visual noise. Concealed flush control is part of the standard specification of the apartments at Rezidence Vinorum 1905. As an upgrade, we show a toilet-roll holder integrated into the wall, a toilet-brush box and a concealed fan. This is not luxury for its own sake, but a refinement of places that are usually the last to be considered in an interior.

A quality interior is often recognised not by what it has added, but by what it has managed to make disappear. When the pattern of the tiling is interrupted neither by a plastic button nor by a conspicuous access panel, the wall gains order and the bathroom feels calmer, more generous and more timeless. This is exactly how we understand Smart Development: technology should not be the main image of a space. It should create comfort that we sense, even though we can barely see its mechanism.
